Put it on the invitation rather than leaving it to word of mouth, because it changes whether people accept at all. A single line saying guests are welcome to stay, or that the party ends early enough for the drive home, answers the real question. If you have space on the property for people to camp or park, say so plainly. That line does more for your attendance than any design choice on the card.
Should a summer party here start in the evening because of the heat?
Late afternoon into evening usually works best, since summer days reach the high eighties and low nineties but 3,000 feet takes the edge off once the sun is down. Give the start time some room after the worst of the afternoon and make shade part of the plan for the first hour. Then name an end time, because guests facing an hour-plus drive want to know what they are committing to. Freeze nights in winter make the reverse true from November onward, when midday is the only comfortable window.
