Announcement design
An announcement is not an invitation. Nobody is being asked to do anything, which changes the whole design.
An invitation has a job: get somebody to show up somewhere at a time. An announcement is just news, and good news usually. That means the design can be quieter, the information hierarchy is simpler, and the photograph, if there is one, does most of the work.
Birth announcements are the most common, and the most time-sensitive in a way that catches people out. Everybody plans to send them and then a newborn arrives and six weeks disappear. Because these are digital, you can send them the day you have a photo you like rather than waiting on a print run.
Moving announcements are the most underrated. A card with your new address on it is genuinely useful to the people receiving it, and it is the easiest way to make sure your mail and your Christmas cards follow you.
Adoption announcements, name changes, graduations and retirements all sit here too. Same process, same delivery, and I will take the time to get the wording sensitive if the news is complicated.
In your inbox
- A custom announcement, photo-led or type-led
- Print-ready PDF at 300dpi with bleed
- Sized for text message and email
- A square version for a feed post if you want one
- One round of revisions included
What this isn't
- Photography or newborn retouching. Send me the photo you have.
- Printing, envelopes, mailing or address labels.
- Change-of-address filing. The card tells people; you still tell the post office.
Questions people actually ask
How soon after the birth should I send one?
Whenever you have a photo you actually like, and there is no deadline you are failing. Because these are digital you are not waiting on a printer, so the realistic answer is two to six weeks and nobody is counting.
Can you do a photo collage rather than one image?
Yes, and it works particularly well for graduations and moving announcements where one photo cannot carry the whole story. Send me three to five and I will build the layout around them.
We are adopting and the situation is sensitive. Can you help with wording?
I will not write it for you, but I will tell you honestly if something reads the wrong way, and I have laid out enough of these to know which phrasings land badly. Take the time you need on the words; the design will wait.
