Invitation design in Campo
Campo sits at the county's south-eastern edge, roughly 2,800 people spread thin across small rural parcels close to the border. Celebrating here is a private-land, bring-your-own-everything affair, and the invitation does more work than the same card would do in town.
Celebrating in the backcountry
With a population that size, a party is family plus the handful of neighbours you actually know, so guest lists tend to run twenty to sixty rather than two hundred. Homes here are small and the lots are not, which pushes everything outside: folding tables on packed ground, a canopy for shade, food set out near where the cars are parked. Because nobody is renting a room down the road, the host is also the venue, the kitchen and the parking, and that shapes what the paper needs to say before anyone arrives.

The practical side
Campo is a genuine drive from anywhere with a print counter, so for most hosts the honest answer is a file on the phone, forwarded once and done. I hand over a print-ready PDF alongside text-message and story-sized files, and out here the text version is the one that actually gets used. If you do want printed cards, it usually happens on a trip through somewhere larger, so I keep the layout to standard sizes any counter can run without a custom trim or a special stock.
When people celebrate here
High-desert-transition weather gives long, hard, bright afternoons and cool evenings, so the workable window for an outdoor gathering sits late in the day rather than at midday. Fire risk is a real part of the calendar in this corner of the county, and a late-summer date can be disrupted by conditions nobody controls. Spring and autumn are the easy months, and most of the invitations I send to 91906 are for dates inside those two windows.

Frequently asked questions
Cell service out here is patchy. Will my guests be able to open what you send?
The files I send are images and a PDF, not a link to a page that has to load. Your guests save the story-sized image to their phone once and it opens with no signal at all. That is also why I put the full time and date in plain text on the face of the card. Nothing about the invitation should depend on a bar of service at the moment somebody needs it.
There is nowhere close by to print. What do people around here usually do?
Most Campo hosts send the digital files and skip printing altogether, and that works fine for a gathering of forty. If you want a few real cards for grandparents, the print-ready PDF is sized so any counter can run it on a trip into town. I would print a small number rather than a full set. One stack of ten costs almost nothing and saves you a second trip you did not plan on.
What services aren't available for a Campo project?
I don't offer logos, brand identities, brand kits, websites, or packaging. General graphic design and photography also sit outside my studio's scope. For Campo projects, I design invitations, announcements, and event paper only. I don't handle printing, mailing, addressing, shipping, or guest-list management. RSVP hosting isn't included, and every finished item arrives digitally.
