I would lock the date first, send the digital version immediately, then follow with printed announcements for the relatives travelling in. Our party is in July. Is an afternoon start realistic?
Only with shade. Summer peaks here reach 95 to 105°F, and an unshaded garden at two o'clock empties out fast whatever you have planned. I would start at six and say so on the card. If the party is around a pool the same advice holds, because the deck gets hot long before the water gets warm, and a short line about shade and water on the invitation prevents a lot of quiet discomfort.
