Class reunion invitations

I make custom class reunion invitations, personalised from an existing design for $65 or designed from scratch, then deliver everything as digital files.

No other invitation here goes out to a list the sender only partly has, which changes what the card is for.

An empty school hall set with round tables and folding chairs in late afternoon light

A reunion committee almost never holds a complete set of contact details for the class. Twenty or forty years have moved people, changed surnames and closed email accounts. That makes this invitation two things at once: an invitation to the people you can reach, and a request that those people forward it to the ones you cannot. Saying so directly, with a line asking recipients to pass it on and a single address to send found classmates to, does more for attendance than anything else on the card.

The three facts that decide whether someone comes are cost, whether partners are invited, and where it is. All three get buried regularly. Ticket price per person, stated plainly. A clear yes or no on spouses and partners, because half the class will otherwise ask and the other half will guess wrong and turn up alone. And a firm reply deadline, because a venue needs a catering number weeks ahead and a reunion committee cannot easily chase people it barely knows.

The detail people actually remember is the name badge. A badge carrying the yearbook photograph next to the current name solves the problem everybody privately has at a reunion, which is recognising someone across a room after thirty years. If the committee can gather the photos, the badges are worth making, and they are the single most talked-about piece of paper at the event.

Design notes

What changes for this one

The year is the strongest element on the card, because it is what identifies the class instantly. School colours are usually the honest starting point, though they often need muting to sit on paper. Type large enough for readers in their fifties, sixties and beyond. A separate line, visually set apart, for the find-a-classmate request.

Timing

When to send

Four to six months out, with a reply deadline six to eight weeks before the date. People are booking flights and hotels, and the venue will want a firm number long before the class is ready to give one.

Palette

Colours that work

School colours, pulled down to something adult. If those are difficult, ink and bone with one metallic accent, which suits a milestone year and photographs well against a hotel ballroom.

Questions people ask about class reunion invitations

How do we invite classmates we have lost contact with?

Ask on the card. A line requesting that recipients forward it, with one address for sending on found classmates, turns every invitation into a small search party. It is the most effective thing a committee can print.

Should the ticket price be on the invitation?

Yes, per person and unmissable. Cost is the first question anybody asks, and a committee that leaves it off spends the following month answering the same message.

Are partners usually invited?

Convention goes both ways, so the invitation has to say which it is. Whatever the committee decides, state it in plain words rather than relying on how the envelope is addressed.

Can you design name badges with yearbook photos?

Yes. Badges pairing the yearbook photograph with the current name are the detail everyone mentions afterwards, and they come as print-ready sheets under day-of event paper.
