Camping party invitations
I make custom camping party invitations, personalised from an existing design for $65 or designed from scratch, then deliver everything as digital files.
Half these parties happen at a campsite and half happen on a lawn twenty feet from a bathroom, and the two need completely different cards.

A real camping party means a site, a drive, a night away from a parent, and often no phone signal. A backyard camping party means a tent on the grass, a fire pit, and a front door. Both get called a camping party and the invitations share almost nothing, because the information a parent needs is different in kind. The first line of this card should make it obvious which one you are running, and the wording should be literal rather than atmospheric: "tents in our back garden" or "two nights at Pinewood campground" beats anything more charming.
For the real version, the card carries a packing list and a departure time that is genuinely fixed, because a convoy leaves when it leaves. Sleeping bag, torch, warm layer, closed shoes, a refillable bottle. Whether food is provided or shared. Whether there is phone signal, which is the question parents ask last and worry about most. If children are being driven by another adult, that has to be stated on the card so parents can consent in advance instead of by text from a car park.
Rain is the part that gets left off both versions, and it should be on neither. Say what happens: the backyard party moves indoors and continues, or the campsite booking holds regardless and here is what to pack for wet weather, or there is a fallback date. Parents decide about outdoor parties partly on how much thinking the host has already done, and a stated wet-weather plan answers that before they ask.
What changes for this one
Illustration does the theme better than photography here: a tent silhouette, pines, a small fire, stars. It reads at any age, which matters because these run from six-year-olds to a group of adults. The practical block is a real block, boxed or ruled off, holding the packing list, times and the rain plan, so a parent can find it in one glance on a phone.
When to send
Four weeks out for a backyard version, six to eight for anything involving a campsite. Sites get booked, parents arrange the weekend, and equipment has to be borrowed. Send the packing list with the invitation rather than after, since borrowing a sleeping bag takes longer than people expect.
Colours that work
Forest and dusk. Deep green with cream, warm amber for firelight, a night-sky navy. Avoid bright novelty colours, which pull the whole thing towards a cartoon and away from the outdoors.
Questions people ask about camping party invitations
How do we make clear this is a backyard camp-out, not real camping?
Say it in the first line, plainly. "Tents in our back garden" removes every ambiguity, and it stops one family arriving with a cool box packed for two nights in the woods.
What should the packing list include?
Sleeping bag, pillow, torch, a warm layer, closed shoes, a refillable bottle, and something to sleep in. Send it with the invitation, not after, because half of it gets borrowed.
What do we say about drop-off and pick-up?
Give both times and treat the departure time as fixed if there is a drive involved. If another adult is driving children, name them on the card so parents can agree to it in advance.
What if it rains?
Put the answer on the invitation. A move indoors, a fallback date, or wet-weather packing for a booking that holds. Parents judge an outdoor party by whether the host has already thought about this.
